Hi, I would like to know why it is not always possible to sell shares bought in South Africa. Most international investors have heard the horror stories about Computershare and their ongoing refusal to sell shares in RSA for many investors. As a result thousands of small investors are too scared to buy SA shares, as they may never be able to change them back into cash.

Dear Ingy, thanks for the comment and for pointing this out. South Africa has hundreds of brokers for buying and selling shares and still very open to international investors. Actually, market cap on the JSE now has an average of about 40% international ownership and with the weak currency, many more international investors are investing and trading on the JSE daily. You can visit the JSE website to get contact for other brokers or send us an email to and we can assist you further
